life for the people

Since I have traveled to India twice, I have real experience as to what it's like to live in India! My family in particular lives in New Delhi, the country's capital, in an apartment complex slightly separated from the main streets. iLfe there is fascinating! There are many colorful festivals that are celebrated, such as Holi (a spring festival that signifies "the end of winter, the blossoming of love, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships", Wikipedia). The food in India is also stellar, ranging from spicy curries to a simple child's wheat biscuit to the most flavorful butter in existence. Children are educated and learn English as well as their natural tongue, whether that's Punjabi, Tamil, or Hindu. India is largely in poverty, and as a result, sadly the streets are crowded with the homeless. India also has crazy traffic! A main mode of transportation for the public is the auto-rickshaw- it is an open-sided taxi, similar in structure to a golf cart, which transports groups of people at a time. Lastly, India also has certain streets which are lined in stalls selling souveniers, clothing, and street snacks like aloo paratha (tortilla-like flatbread made with potatoes rolled into a wheat dough).

INDIA: A VIBRANT LAND OF COLOR AND CULTURE

context

what makes her beautiful?

For this one, I think Thousand Miles, an online travel blog, puts it best:

"People and faiths: There are 29 states in this country and every land has its own kind of people that depicts their story. Varied Cultures and taste:: We have different festivals and different lifestyle[s] to follow in India still we are one and called as ‘Indians’. This is what we have learnt ‘ Enekta ta mein Ekta’ (Unity in Diversity). Our defense power: We are fifth strongest defense force in the world. Atithi Devo Bhavo (Guest is God): We Indians are known for our hospitality across the globe. Everything you need-Mountains, Hills, Rivers, forests, deserts, etc- Varied Geography. Our Religion[s] and beliefs [Hinduism, Christianity, Muslim, and Sikhism are some examples]. Bollywood... [and its] desi (which means the "people, cultures, and products of the Indian subcontinent", according to Wikipedia) films."

Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit

"To me India is a land of beauty and generosity, of traditional hospitality and the acceptance of many cultures."

challenges for the country

India, while beautiful, is a somewhat struggling country. Not only is there the persistent presence of poverty, citizens are subjected to an increasingly pollution-filled environment. One example of India's horrible pollution is the contaminated water, which is becoming scarce as the large population places strain on natural resources. On a related note, India is still struggling with health and sanitation issues; the spreading of infectious diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes are responsible for more than half of all deaths in the country. Additionally, this phenomenon- along with mental disorders- are predicted to cause India to lose $6.15 trillion by 2030. Of course, India severely struggles with gender inequality and an entitled male sex, so that is a challenge that should also be combated considering it has a domino effect on women's' health. Lastly, India needs to figure out how to start urbanizing the desperately rural cities, as 40% of the population is predicted to be living in an urban area by 2030.
